A Twitter message: Mom’s (sic) Should Stay Home
So, a few days ago the @MomsToWork account on Twitter received the following message from @tireguy, a gentleman in Phoenix, Arizona.
@MomsToWork Mom’s should stay home with their children. We would be a better society if they would.

Needless to say, there are many things I want to say to @tireguy that couldn’t be contained via 140 characters. What would you reply to him?

After thinking about the post, here’s my response.
1) ALL mothers work, whether they “stay at home” or “work outside the home” or some combination thereof. And no matter where we are, our hearts are always with our families.
2) I really, really wish that all Mothers had the choice to care for their families in the way they wish. Not everyone does, not every Mother has a earning skillset that allows them to stay at home. Not every Mother has the financial resources or family support that allows them to stay at home.
3) I really, really wish that a non-traditional career path or going on the “mommy track” or having gaps on one’s resume didn’t matter in hiring or pay.
4) I really, really hope Mr. Tireguy isn’t a hiring manager.
I second your comment to Tireguy. Unfortunately, Mr. Tireguy fails to realize that every family circumstance is different. He also fails to realize the difference between quality (time) and quantity.
Thank you for the absorbing read! Alright playtime is over and back to school work.
