About vacation

Well, around here, today is not just Easter Sunday, but the end of Spring Break. I’m lucky enough to live near enough to my parents so my daughter got to spend the week at their house. Her grandfather kept her plenty busy, as the weather was just warm enough on most days that he could take her fishing. During the other days, they ran errands together and my daughter read.

It’s not always been that way. Before a few years ago, we lived hours away and only saw my parents on holidays and extended weekends. I know how it is to live without family around.

I ran into another mother yesterday whose daughter attends the same afterschool program my daughter does. She confided in me that for the first time ever, she took the whole week off of work and hung out with her kids.

What do you do when vacation comes around? Do you or your spouse take off from work? Send the kids to a program? Have nearby relatives around? Hire a babysitter?
