Prepared for a swine flu school closure?
Have you made back up or contingency plans in case you get the call saying swine flu is closing your kid’s school? So far, more than 100 schools are closed, CNN reported this morning.
In a live Webinar this morning, Government officials urged parents to plan ahead in case their child’s school is closed.
If you haven’t already, consider:
– Who’s going to stay at home? You or someone else?
– Will the local childcare center be open? Babysitters?
– Can you share resources with a friend?
– Can you get ahead with your work right now in case you need to take time off?
– What are your employee’s responsibilities and policies in this situation?
– Is your school’s emergency calling tree or list up to date? That’s something I am worrying about as a class coordinator.
– Do you have your doctor’s phone number by the phone? A list of local children’s hospitals? I don’t want to panic anyone, but I hate looking for these things when my head and heart are pounding with panic and fear.
– How do you leave the office in a hurry and still look professional?
“The call” is distracting and can rattle you to the point where you blurt something unprofessional like, “My kids matter more than this job.” Phyllis Mindell, Ed.D, author of How to Say It For Women, told Michele Dortch.
