Flexibility for hourly workers? Good for families, good for biz
As LifeMeetsWork.com says, file this under things we working moms could’ve, should’ve, have and will continue to say until all employers finally get it.
Flexibility is a great way for keeping workers, including those of us who do double duty caring for school aged children, family or relatives.
A new report finds flexible hours are also a win-win, to use a tired old cliche, for businesses and part-time or hourly workers, too.
Flexibility is particularly valuable in customer service and sales, areas with high turnover.
Companies find that flexibility is a way to keep high-performing employees both in the short term and the long term. And if you’ve spent any time with customer service managers, you’ll know that turnover of reps is a much bigger problem than cranky customers.
These companies use flexibility to respond to the changing needs of their workers at various stages of their lives and careers—going back to school, raising a family, or to retain mature workers.
To find out more, read the Corporate Voices Study or read the post by LifeMeetsWork blog, titled “In the ‘Yes, We Know’ Category.”
Jaime at LifeMeetsWork points out that Corporate Voices for Working Families released the new workplace flexibility study last week on the day that Michelle Obama spoke at their forum in D.C. Mrs. O got the limelight (you can see what she said on our blog here), and probably overshadowed this important report.
