Ann Taylor is doing young women a disservice and it may backfire on this late, great company. Career counselors are advising young women who are entering the corporate world, which encompasses most industries, to dress conservatively but stylishly, and leave trendy for the weekend. We adult female professionals are having a tough time trying to convince Gen Yers on proper behavior and dress in the workplace, but we are persevering. We are teaching young women that acquiring the competitive edge of class and style is more important than attaining the cutting edge of fashion. It’s so sad that Ann Taylor has sold out to a concept that is on its way out.

Coukldn’t agree more. Probably done with ann. Last 3 times i couldn’t find a thing i wanted to buy whereas i used to have to limit myself to several hundred dollars every time i went in in the past

I agree completely. I am devastated that Ann Taylor, my favorite store for years, has turned into this cheap and classless store. Too many synthetic, cheap looking fabrics. Too many wasteful trends. Nearly everything now looks sloppy and like it belongs in a bargain bin. I’ve also heard many complaints about the quality of the craftsmanship and that the clothing does not hold up nearly as well as it used to.

“…aiming its marketing at younger, more “fashion-forward” youngsters…”. Really??? I was at Ann Taylor store yesterday and couldn’t find anything that would actually look young. I used to shop at Ann Taylor a lot but now I feel like the store is for older ladies (I’m 30). Their suits jackets remind me of the 80s and the pants have no shape. The blouses are loooong, dull colors, too much silk that you can’t wash. If I want to look professional, modern and young then I’ll go to The Limited. They have better prices and modern cuts.

Thank heaven! And I thought I was imagining it! Like you, I do not find much at Ann Taylor these days. I, too, used to love their clothing, and would spend a lot of money there. Their materials and fabrics were lovely (wool, silk, cotton, linen), but now everything seems to be polyester or some kind of polyester blend. I also don’t like the style of clothing anymore. Everything is rather shapeless. I fondly remember the dresses they used to have in 2004, 2005, and 2006 – so gorgeous! I still have a closet full of silk dresses from those years. Heck, with a bit of luck, you can still find them on eBay (unworn, tags attached!) — I think I would rather do that than shop at Ann Taylor. Please do not even get me started on Loft. That store is utter rubbish. I won’t waste another second of my life there.
