Bizarre ad targeted at moms

Do advertisers think moms are worth so little that they don’t bother? Or is this just the worst case of sloppy advertising? Or is there method in this madness?

I have been amused, bewildered and offended by the bizarre photos (like the one below) that illustrate this ad targeting working moms, “Obama Asks Moms to Return to Work.”

The big question: Why would they use a man to illustrate this ad? An even bigger question is why do they use crazy looking men who look like they’re lining up for a part in Monty Python’s Life of Brian? It isn’t just this photo. In the past, we’ve had a man who looked like he had very bad false teeth, the sort you see in old paintings of George Washington.

And now this hairy Jesus lookalike? Is this really going to encourage a mom to click on the ad? Click to get a job and God?  That’s a big promise …

I totally agree! This is the most bizarre advertising I’ve seen. I’ve seen all sorts of images used for these “Moms Return to Work” ads including annoying animated dancing people. I’ve never seen this hairy man, but that is the most bizarre advertising. Whatever it is, I would never click on it :-)

Julie – I am so pleased to know that I am not the only Mom who saw this ad as, well, let’s say unappealing! And that’s being nice! Right on!

That is indeed a truly bizarre ad.

    It reminds me:

    a) why I don’t have ads on my blog
    b) why I use AdBlock Plus on Firefox

Some of them like the example given are very offputting!

I have clicked on them …They’re by http://degrees.classesusa.com/schools/25231-page1.cusa Maybe they’ll tell us the thinking behind the ads? Are they intentional? A marketing mix up? or a prank?

Thanks Karen. Maybe they’re testing our sense of humor? This one is so unappealing it is kind of funny …

Thanks Sally. We will have to investigate the tool you recommend. Mind you, we are not above saying we’d LOVE to make a few pennies from our blog. But our preference would be getting a sponsorship from a respectable company. So we won’t be giving up our day jobs in a hurry. Note to advertisers: My marketing expertise could write a better ad in a flash than this silly ad (uh oh, is any publicity good publicity?)
